A key feature of the ACT8001 Tympanic Ear thermometer is the integration of Biomaster antimicrobial technology from Addmaster. This innovative technology offers CONTINUOUS, built-in product protection against harmful bacteria pathogens, ensuring the thermometer remains hygienic throughout its use. The business was founded in 1888 and in 1899 relocated to 82 Turnmill Street, Clerkenwell, London, for the manufacture of Clinical and Laboratory Thermometers; 1921 – Incorporated as a limited company; 1934 – relocated to larger premises at Lombard Rd. Morden, Merton, London SW19 3UU; 1990 – Company unified into a larger group Coles Holdings Ltd; 1996 – Moved to 8 Deer Park Rd., Merton, London SW19 3UU and are still trading as G. H. Zeal Ltd. providing 128 years of innovation and service to medical and nursing professionals over the World.

Since its foundation Zeal has appreciated a long history of working with medical professionals and during both World Wars supplied clinical thermometers to UK, Overseas, and Field hospitals, latter via the MOD. They continue this tradition today having continuously supplied the NHS since 1948 when health secretary Aneurin Bevan launched the NHS at Park Hospital in Manchester bringing together for the first time, hospitals, doctors, nurses, pharmacists, opticians and dentists under one umbrella organisation to provide free services for all at the point of delivery.

Our Clinical thermometer universally helped to establish Zeal the ‘Gold Standard’ by the medical profession. It was the design, accuracy and speed of response of the lens front, stubby bulb, invented in the1930’s and produced with various improvements into the late 70’s. At the height of demand Zeal employed over 400 people making clinical, laboratory and other scientific thermometers at Lombard Road, Merton.

During 2013 the company came up with a novel design of Tympanic thermometer with a cradle storage case and a ‘hands free’ probe cover dispenser. Two models were brought to the market. Now of them, the ACT8000, has just been upgraded to the ACT8001, which has the integrated anti-bacterial coating. As they competed on quality and were considerably lower in price than the more expensive models available the thermometers became an immediate success with the first sales to the NHS in March 2014.

The products, together with Zeal’s low-cost Probe Cover initiatives, are helping the NHS make significant savings on purchases of thermometry.
