Company Profile
The eco-active ceramic surfaces Active Surfaces® by Iris Ceramica Group combine innovation, safety, and sustainability. The patented technology of Active Surfaces® transforms ceramic slabs into eco-active materials with four superior properties: antibacterial and antiviral, anti-pollution, anti-odour, and self-cleaning, all ISO-certified. Available in various formats and thicknesses, these materials contain 40% recycled content and are fully recyclable. The effectiveness of the four properties lasts throughout the slab’s entire lifecycle. Since 2009, Active Surfaces® has been combining design and science to create innovative, sustainable, and aesthetic surfaces that enhance the interaction between people and the environment.
Approach to Healthcare
We need to be able to live our everyday spaces safely and freely, without compromising on design.
This is why the choice of materials can make a difference. Active Surfaces® not only hold great design value but also innovatively respond to our need for safety and well-being.
Impact of Products/Services on Healthcare:
The innovative and sustainable technology of Active Surfaces® ceramic surfaces by Iris Ceramica Group also makes it easier to obtain a number of certifications.
Iris Ceramica Group materials have been LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) certified since 2008, even though they fully met such standards much earlier, being designed and manufactured with very high percentages of recycled material (>40% in total weight).
The GreenGuard certification guarantees that the materials intended for indoor use have practically zero volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions. Iris Ceramica Group materials have been recognised and accepted by green building programmes worldwide with the GreenGuard Gold certificate for the total absence of risks even in places where particularly sensitive people such as children or the elderly spend time.
The EPD is a voluntary international certification scheme, based on the analysis of the product life cycle in accordance with standard EN 1580414. Iris Ceramica Group has conducted a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)15 using the “from cradle to grave” format, publishing the results in its specific Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for products belonging exclusively to the company, which provided precise data on the environmental performance of its materials.
Innovation
We are committed to a future where sustainability and environmental respect serve as the foundation for harmonious coexistence. Iris Ceramica Group has always worked to spread a culture of beauty, with continuous investments in pioneering technologies, aiming to make the production process increasingly efficient and ethical. Our work in fact aims to improve the interaction between humans and the environment they live in by re-engineering ceramics, one of the world’s most noble and high performing materials.
Future Direction
We believe in a future in which sustainability and respect for others form the basis of harmonious coexistence. Our zero-impact production lines are a credit to us that goes well beyond our ability to spread the culture of beauty, and bear witness to the high priority that our approach to manufacturing gives to looking after the environment we live in. Everything we do is focused on creating a world in which the production system and the human habitat merge together to generate a new level of prosperity.
